Daily Express and various other sites reporting a 5 million bid from suttgart that has been made. If true I think we can wave gooodbye to Baba bhoys as I cannot see us spending 5 million plus on a player.

Also glasgow evening times saying that a chinese club have made an offer and we would have no chance of competing financially with them. Mind you at 23 years old with various big clubs after him he would have to be a money grabbing bastard to go there at this stage in his career.

The daily hun says we have made an offer of 3.25 million and that it will have to be upped. Im slightly confused however as there are many rumours about what bid we actually put in for him.

I wouldn't burst the bank for him tbh.  We spent enough on Bangura and have yet to see the return.

he is valued at 6 million. Unless this maritimo chairman really is a nice guy and gives us the option to speak to him first we are fucked. lol

CELTIC’S hopes of landing Baba Diawara have hit a major obstacle – £6million high.

The Maritimo striker has been on top of Neil Lennon’s shopping list for several months, and only a work permit issue prevented him moving to Parkhead in August after a £2m fee had been agreed between the Hoops and his Portuguese club, Maritimo.

Lennon has continued the pursuit of the Senegalese hitman (pictured), and recently flew to Portugal to check on the form which carried Diawara to the top of the Portuguese scoring charts.

But, Celtic have been joined in the hunt for the man who turned 24 today by several other clubs, including Chinese outfit Beijing Guoan, French clubs Monaco and Sochaux and German side Stuttgart, who have slapped a £5m offer on the table.

Maritimo have rejected this bid from the Bundesliga club, and believe they can raise the price even higher.

One director of the Madeira-based side said: “We have placed a £6m figure on Baba’s head, and expect to get it within the next few days.

“The more goals Baba scores, the higher his valuation.”

Diawara accepts he will be sold in this window, but must now wait to see who makes an offer his club are willing to accept.

He said: “I know there is a lot of interest in me, but I have confidence in the club president to make a good choice.”

I'll say the same as I did in the Rhodes thread. Can't see the board shelling out for either of these players. Especially with the current form of Stokes/Hooper/Sammy and considering Bangura ain't seen much first team action yet.

right thats the end of that target then. can't really blame his club, there's been so much interest in him so they should look to get as much money for him as they can.

Why did we waste cash on Bangura, should have just put all the cash in for Baba who is a quality striker.

I have always been thinking the deal for baba was in place? But fell through towards the end of the window because of visa problems..

besides its fine saying that about bangura now, but none of us were to know he wasnt going to make an immediate impact when we bought him at first. It would help if he could actually start a game.

end of that then no point breaking the bank. There is bound to be another forward out there just as good hopefully our scouts find another cracker hopefully a youngster with decent potential and good in the air that we can sell on in a few years for a profit.
