Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers are preparing to go head-to-head for Nigerian striker Michael Uchebo.

The VVV-Venlo hitman was recently on trial at Premier League side Stoke City, but the Potters opted against pursuing a permanent deal for his services after boss Tony Pulis adjudged Uchebo not what the doctor ordered.

However, the 21-year-old’s potential is not in doubt and VVV-Venlo are keen to realise a fee for a player whose contract is due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Uchebo’s availability has now piqued the interest of both Celtic and Rangers, with the Scottish Premier League powerhouses both exploring the possibility of taking the 21-year-old north.

While Uchebo was keen to move to the English Premier League, the opportunity to advance his career at two of the biggest clubs in Europe will undoubtedly be an attractive one and the switch would represent a significant step up from VVV-Venlo.

The tall Nigerian striker – Uchebo is 6"8 – has turned out 15 times for his Dutch club so far this season, finding the back of the net just once.

Hot off the press, imo would be a decent signing only 21 and has A LOT of potential!

If i were to describe i would say this he is a lot like Samaras but is more physical and consistent and more of a threat in the air, over all a very good signing if we can pull it off!

"Diouf plays to the crowd. He gets involved in everything - except the football."

He looks decent, he is only 21 he is a bit raw but he is really physical and does look good with the ball at times. Might do well at a team like Celtic rather than a small underdog team.

who makes this pish up? if celtic and them both wanted the guy, there can only be one outcome. ffs the couldn't find 300 grand last week so how could they compete with a club (any club, never mind celtic) on a sound financial footing?

If we sign him does this mean copy the huns and do route 1 every time? Forster hits the ball up the park to this guys head? Not for me, most boring form of football I have ever witnessed.

looks a decent guy at 21 and 6ft 8" means that not one defender in scotland would be able to beat him in the air! big threat from corners for us if we were to sign him and could help in europe if we need to hold the ball up more often to allow midfielders into the game against stronger opponents. id say give it a go and see what he is like, could turn out to be another gem like wanyama

Love how he's the kind of CF everyones been screaming for. Yet now we're linked with him everyones laughing?
He's EXACTLY the kind of player that fits the current signing policy.
He seems to fit the bill of what we're lacking going forward. A player doing what Sammy does with less technical ability but a better eye for goal himself.

I wasn't saying I wouldn't take the big fella, looks a good player, but just don't fancy watching 90 mins of the ball getting smashed onto his nut from the keeper/defenders.

Wasn't just you mate. Heard it from a few folk now and its the same folk that have spent since summer crying for this kind of striker. If he ain't upto much that's different, but it gives us another way to play going forward. Some games that's what you need, it ain't pretty, but if it gets us a win I'm not bothered either way and we can't really play that way with the current squad as your basically relying on whoever Sammy is partnering to get the goals.

You know when you get players who are the new Pele or Eusebio or something and that sounds exciting. Nigerian Peter Crouch is hardly a complement.
