SunSport can reveal football development chief John Park has been in touch with the cash-strapped La Liga outfit.
Now Celts look set to table an offer before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.
But the Hoops fear being priced out of an agreement with some Betis directors believing that Molina is worth £5MILLION.
Manager Neil Lennon has already brought in three new players — but is keen to bolster his striker options.
Powerful targetman Molina, 29, fits the bill having hit 46 goals in two and a half seasons.
A source close to Molina said: "We understand that Celtic's John Park has been in talks with Betis about Jorge.
"If the club are prepared to sell him then he would be very interested in discussions with Celtic. But it is still early."
Celtic are trying to establish availability and price for the player who cost just £1.5million from Spanish minnows Elche back in June 2010.
And Molina still has a contract until 2014.
But Betis, who are in administration, are sitting £60million in debt and desperate for cash.

Saw this a bit ago. Would be nice to get a proven target man on the squad to push for the title. We'll see what happens.

saw this on Twitter for the past few days saw this guy playing a few times playing for Betis  from what i have seen off him he looks a really good player can hold the ball up well scores a few with the head to he is 29 years old that is nothing in football  now a days and age is nothing but a number is it not

They wont get £5million for him and they know it. One of those aim higher so you get average. Think we will pay about £2.5 and get him, hopefully.

cant see celtic paying 7 million for this player i would go for 1.5 million to 4 million at a push for this guy if we got him before the end off deadline day  good or will it go down to the final few minutes

I think Molina is pushing for the move, whether he is just using celtic as a bargaining ploy against betis, its hard to know. But cant see us paying massieve money for a 29 year old, this is not the usual lawell strategy.

We need experience but I wouldnt go spending 5 million on a unknown and I dont think we will.  You can say all you like about " Kayal and izzaguire being unknown" etc but they were both under 25 when we bought them for very little money. His goalscoring record is good yes but most of those goals have came in the spanish second division which aint great I wouldnt think. We do play in the SPL mind you so we cant talk..



If his club is going to hold us to ransom then move on, make a 2.5million bid, see what they say. If they ask for 5 then tell them to do one as we cant afford to piss about any longer. Looking unlikely we are going to sign anyone else in this window..

lennon said nothing is happeneing with anyone at the moment on skysports interview, unless he has a plan up his sleeve, id be happy with this molina dude, has a good record in a good league, slpash the cash BOARD!

he only made his debut in the la liga this season and hasnt scored that many. He has played basically his whole career in the spanish second and lower divisions.

Not that bothered at the prospect of signing this guy. They might be in debt but the Betis chairman has said that you will not get a La Liga striker for as little as 3 million euro. Would not go over 2.5-3 million.

I think lennon has something in mind though..I hope.
